Woman Brings Dead Husband Back As Hologram For A Q&A At His Own Funeral

DW: Alex, I'll take "Things to Traumatize your Family" for $200.

Is it sweet, interesting, or just really creepy? A Wisconsin woman gave her late husband's funeral an unforgettable twist by bringing him back as a hologram to greet the mourners one last time. Pam Cronrath, who was married to Bill Cronrath for nearly 60 years, worked with companies Proto Hologram and Hyperreal to create a life-size digital version of her husband using pre-recorded material and AI. About 200 guests attended, and most of them had no idea what was coming.

The hologram appeared on screen and walked mourners through a scripted Q&A, answering questions as if he were really there. The opening line set the tone: "Now, before anyone gets confused, I'm not actually here in Valhalla today. Is this going to be fun?" Pam wrote the entire script herself using six decades of shared memories. She had hoped to keep the budget around $2,000, but said the project grew far more ambitious than that.
