DW: I call it 'thinning the herd'...
Just when you think social media trends can’t get weirder, people start eating pots. People are eating tiny clay pots dusted with chili-lime Tajín seasoning after soaking them in lime juice on TikTok. The trend was kicked off by content creator Janeth Herrera, who began craving dirt while pregnant and started posting videos of herself popping the small clay pots into her mouth and chewing them. Her clips drew millions of views and prompted a wave of others trying it themselves, driving up Amazon prices for miniature clay pots.
Reactions among those who tried it were mixed, with some describing the texture as feeling like glass in their teeth. Doctors who spoke to the New York Post said the behavior may be linked to pica, a condition that causes cravings for non-food items, sometimes appearing in pregnancy or alongside nutrient deficiencies. Herrera said her iron levels came back normal, though experts noted standard lab results can miss underlying deficiencies. You can see one of the videos from Herrera to the right.
