If you live in New York and feel like something strange is watching you from above, a new study says you might not be totally wrong. A gambling website called Casino.ca dug through more than 150-thousand UFO sighting reports filed between 1974 and 2026 and ranked every U.S. state by the odds of an alien abduction. New York came in at number three, with 8,314 reported sightings since 1974, or about one for every 1,003 residents. That puts the Empire State just behind Washington state and first-place Delaware.
A former member of the Center for UFO Studies thinks most New York sightings are probably just people seeing things they don't recognize, given the sheer number of people in the state. The study was released to mark National Alien Abduction Day on Friday, which falls on March 20th every year. Across the whole country, the odds of getting abducted work out to roughly one in 1,770. Louisiana is your safest bet, with the fewest sightings per person in the nation.
