DW: And today's story is brought to you by the word IRONY.
Alanis Morissette would be proud. A dump truck in Phillipsburg, New Jersey fell into a sinkhole it was trying to repair. The truck was delivering asphalt to fix a hole that had opened up at the intersection of Summit Avenue and Lewis Street. While working on Tuesday, the truck broke through the ground and went halfway into the hole, damaging a water main and leaving about 20 customers without water. About 30 feet away, another sinkhole opened up and swallowed a car.
The town declared a state of local emergency to get more resources for repairs. The truck driver had minor injuries, and residents were told they might need to evacuate as the sinkhole kept growing. Roads around the area were closed while officials used radar to check if the road was stable enough to remove the truck and fix the water main.
