Art Student Stuffs World's Largest Sock Monkey

DW: That makes for a lengthy spanking.

Ever have an idea that everyone thought was crazy? A 22-year-old art student from Scotland's Glasgow School of Art has earned a Guinness World Record for building the world's largest sock monkey sculpture. Emilia Evans-Munton created the massive stuffed animal as a passion project for her degree show, using nearly 200 feet of corduroy fabric and 40 straw bales for stuffing.

The finished piece measured 49 feet and 6 inches long, with recycled wood buttons for eyes that were each about five feet wide. Evans-Munton said the project was inspired by an old sock monkey she had made as a kid, and the piece is meant to celebrate the toys people leave behind as they grow up. The giant monkey was shown at the Field Manoeuvres Festival in Norfolk, England, where visitors were encouraged to climb on and play with it.
