DW: Is this where they got the term 'explosive diarrhea'?"
There are some things they don’t train you for in medical school. Surgeons in France got quite a shock when they discovered a World War 1 shell lodged inside a patient's backside. The 24-year-old man showed up at a hospital in Toulouse on Saturday night complaining about discomfort from an "inserted object." Doctors only realized what they were dealing with once surgery began. The antique explosive was about 6 inches long, and staff quickly called police and firefighters, who put the hospital on lockdown while bomb disposal experts checked the device.
It turned out to be harmless, the shell was removed, and the man stayed in the hospital to recover. As if the situation wasn’t bad enough for him, police plan to file charges against the man for violating weapons laws. Believe it or not, this is not the first time this has happened in France. Four years ago, an 88-year-old man caused a similar scare at another hospital with a WW1 shell stuck in the same place.
