Christmas Tree Farm Catching Heat For Selling Painted Trees

DW: Sounds like tree farmers are trying Instagram filters in the real world.

A New Jersey Christmas tree farm is facing backlash for selling trees spray-painted in nine different colors.

Wyckoff's Christmas Tree Farm in White Township offers trees in pink, purple, dark blue, light blue, turquoise, magenta, red, and black.

The farm, which has been selling Christmas trees since 1958, uses real trees grown on its 65-acre property and paints them with a fire-proof, latex-based paint made specifically for Christmas trees, and yes…there’s paint made for Christmas trees.

Workers in protective gear spray the trees with different colors, and the farm warns on its website that the paint will flake off when the tree is opened from its netting and likely fall on the floor.

They also say they won't be liable for any issues from using the product.

Critics on social media called the practice "absolutely horrific" and questioned the safety of spraying chemicals on trees.

Others said they prefer natural trees or would just buy an artificial colored tree instead.
