DW: WHAT. A. RELIEF! (tee-hee)
A UK employment tribunal ruled that calling your boss a "d***head" is not automatically grounds for firing, according to a recent case. Office manager Kerrie Herbert was fired on the spot in 2022 after calling her manager and another director "d***heads" during a heated meeting at Main Group Services, a brickwork company. Herbert told the tribunal the comment was meant as a joke, but her boss responded by telling her to leave immediately.
Employment judge Sonia Boyes ruled that Herbert had been unfairly dismissed and awarded her over $40-thousand in compensation and legal costs. The judge found that the company had not "acted reasonably in all the circumstances" in treating her conduct as sufficient reason for dismissal. Herbert said she told her bosses "it is only because of you two d***heads that I stayed" when discussing workplace issues, which led to her immediate termination.
