Scientists Have Invented Mind-Reading Tech For "Mental Passwords"

DW: Still wouldn't help me...my mind is too full of Land Of The Lost episodes..

If you don’t know what to think about this, a machine will be with your shortly. Stanford University scientists have achieved a breakthrough in brain-computer interface technology by successfully decoding inner speech with 74-percent accuracy. This advancement could revolutionize communication for people with severe speech and motor impairments by translating silent thoughts into words. The technology works by using microelectrodes placed in the motor cortex to record neural activity when participants imagine speaking rather than attempting to speak aloud. Four participants with severe paralysis from conditions like ALS or brainstem stroke took part in the study.

The system can interpret imagined sentences from a vocabulary of up to 125,000 words. Researchers also developed a mental password system using the phrase "chitty chitty bang bang" to control when the device decodes thoughts, achieving over 98-percent accuracy in password recognition. The technology represents the first successful attempt to understand brain activity during pure thought-based speech, offering hope for more natural communication methods for disabled individuals.
