DW: Time to brush up on my "Under the Sea" lyrics...
Mermaiding, where people wear mermaid fins and tails to swim, is becoming popular worldwide. The activity has led to mermaid swim schools, groups, and conventions in the U.S., Canada, Australia, the Philippines, and China. It’s turning into a big business; companies now sell “monofins” and fabric mermaid tails to both kids and adults, making it easier for anyone to try.
Merman Maui from Los Angeles said mermaiding adds fun and magic to life when things get boring. China even set a world record with 110 professional mermaids performing underwater, with “professional mermaids” now an official job. Safety is important since feet and legs are bound together, so proper training and supervision are needed.
