DW: Guess I should start reading the fine print on stuff I sign, huh?
A 36-year-old Texas woman named Kristin Marie Spearman is in jail for stalking charges after she allegedly got married without her boyfriend being there. The strange case started when a 42-year-old man found a package at his home from his ex-girlfriend. Inside was a marriage certificate that showed they were married, even though he never went to a wedding. The man told police that he and Spearman had gotten a marriage license around June 2, but they broke up before any wedding happened.
Police say Spearman convinced a pastor to sign off on the marriage even though the groom wasn't there. She then took the fake certificate to the county clerk's office and filed it as if it were real. Police worked with another department to find Spearman at her home near Hewitt and arrested her. She's now facing third-degree felony stalking charges. The police chief said they're not telling anyone who the pastor was while they continue investigating the case.
