DW: Instead of Adrian, would it be Android?
A robotics company called Unitree held the world’s first humanoid robot fighting competition with a lot of similarities to the movie “Real Steel.” Four of their G1 robots, standing four feet three inches tall and weighing 77 pounds, fought in a ring, controlled by humans using remotes and voice commands. The robots wore boxing gloves and headgear, throwing jabs, hooks, uppercuts, and even leg kicks over three two-minute rounds.
Points were given for hits to the head and torso, and one match ended with a knockout when a robot couldn’t get up after eight seconds. A human referee made sure the robots followed the rules. The event, broadcast live by China Central Television, showed off the G1’s smooth movements and balance. Another robot fighting tournament is planned for December in Shenzhen, China, with bigger robots from different companies. No word if Hugh Jackman will be there.
