DW: Take it from me, this IS torture.
As methods to keep people away go, this one’s an almost surefire winner. A barbershop in downtown Los Angeles is playing “Baby Shark” on repeat to keep homeless people from camping outside. The owner, Peter Yoon, started this in early May because encampments were blocking his business and scaring customers away. The loud, catchy song makes it hard for people to stay near the shop. One woman screamed and threw her shoes when it played, and others have moved their tents down the street.
Yoon says he’s not trying to be mean but wants the city to fix the problem. Homeless folks nearby say the song is annoying and keeps them awake. Yoon’s method has worked so far, with fewer tents outside, but it’s caused a stir. Some neighbors think it’s clever, while others feel it’s harsh. The city hasn’t stepped in yet, so Yoon plans to keep the music going.
