Man Survives On Bread, Cereal And Candy Alone

DW: MY HERO!

And you thought you knew a picky eater. Thomas Sheridan, a 35-year-old man from the UK, has lived his entire life without ever eating fruits, vegetables, meat, or eggs. Diagnosed with avoidant restrictive food intake disorder, the mere thought of these foods makes him feel sick. His daily meals consist of two loaves of white bread, three bowls of cereal, and Haribo candy. To get necessary nutrients, he takes supplements that match the flavors he can tolerate.

Thomas's food aversions began at 18 months old, and despite various attempts by his parents and doctors to expand his diet, nothing worked. At school, he was allowed to go home for lunch to eat toast, as he couldn't handle school meals. As an adult, his condition has made it difficult to maintain employment; during a 10-day work period, he lost 21 pounds. He's trying to raise $8,000 for hypnotherapy, hoping it might help him enjoy a more varied diet and share meals with his family.
