Chinese authorities issued a surprising but serious safety warning on Friday for the weekend: if you weigh under 110 pounds, you should probably stay indoors. The reason? Strong winds were forecast to hit parts of the country over the weekend, and officials say lighter people could actually get blown away. The warning was shared through state-run media and has caught a lot of attention for its unusual tone.
A cold vortex traveling in from Mongolia was bringing wind up to 93 mph, rating between 11 to 13 on China’s 17-level wind scale. For reference, a “12” on that scale means the possibility of “extreme destruction” from the winds.
