DW: Can someone build a city that doesn't smell like a paper plant? I'm looking at you Covington!
Toyota is spending $10-billion to build its own city in Japan to test new tech. Woven City, near Mount Fuji, has already seen its first part finished…around 506-thousand square feet, and features underground pathways for autonomous vehicles to handle tasks like garbage collection and deliveries.
No one’s living in the city yet, and the first group of residents will total around 100 people. Toyota has said it doesn’t expect to make money from Woven City, and there are plans to experiment with robots and artificial intelligence to test everyday living. As one auto analyst said, “Toyota has the money to do all that.”
