DW: On our HOA Facebook page, I told the snoots I have an emotional support right hand. No one got it.
Never let your HOA find out about your emotional support chickens. Homeowner Lori Smith has been ordered by a judge to remove her five emotional support chickens and their backyard coop by early April. The ruling is the latest development in her ongoing fight with the Amherst Farms Homeowners' Association in Gloucester County, New Jersey. Smith claims that a board member initially permitted her to keep the chickens, provided she obtained consent from her immediate neighbors, which she did without issue.
She saw a big improvement in her PTSD symptoms after getting the chickens, but the HOA later demanded she get rid of them, citing concerns about safety and the potential attraction of wild animals. Despite nearly three years of legal battles, including hiring an attorney, Smith remains determined to keep her chickens, viewing them as essential to her well-being.
