Paralyzed Man Able To Fly Drone With His Thoughts Thanks To Brain Implant

DW: I'm gonna see if I can up my lazy game and get me one of these...

Matthew Willsey at the University of Michigan have made a sci-fi breakthrough that could help a lot of people. He and his team created an algorithm that allows someone to trigger different signals for a computer using just their thoughts. The invention, which was tested by a paralyzed man who suffered a spinal cord injury, allowed him to pilot a virtual drone.

The algorithm hooks into a brain-computer interface made from 192 electrodes implanted into the area of the brain that controls hand motion. The man used it by imagining moving his fingers, which sends signals that are read by an AI model and used to control the simulated drone.
