DW: In America, blob eats us. In Canada, they eat blob.
The Nova Scotia area in Canada has been grappling with a mystery lately; doughy blobs unlike anything marine biologists have ever seen have been washing up on the shores of Newfoundland, with a local ecologist describing the blobs as “something resembling failed bread dough.” Now, a biology professor thinks he’s figured out what they are…and that the ecologist was right.
After being sent a picture of a bag of Bisquick that had washed up, biology professor Steven Carr thinks a container of the instant biscuit mix fell off a ship and broke up in the water. To test his theory, Carr took some Bisquick and anchored it underwater to check later. Environment and Climate Change Canada says that the blobs are still unidentified, but that they “could be plant-based.”
