DW: You should probably NOT look for dates at the family reunion...just sayin'
A happily married woman, Celina Quinones, discovered through a 23andMe DNA test that she and her husband, Joseph, are cousins. The couple had a short courtship, marrying after just four months, and went on to have three children together. Celina began investigating her family history, seeking to learn more about their heritage.
When the DNA results revealed their family connection, she was shocked. âWhen I realized that we were cousins, I was a little sick to my stomach,â Celina said. âI was thinking, 'Should we get a divorce?'" Despite the initial shock, Celina decided to share the news on TikTok, where the video quickly went viral. However, she wasn't prepared for the backlash. âOne person said, âThis is so disturbing, why would you marry your cousin?ââ she recalled.
The coupleâs teenage son also shared his thoughts, saying he feels âa little bit weirdâ about it but doesnât see it as a major issue since they discovered the truth after getting married. In response to their experience, Celina and Joseph even started a dating platform called "Before We Be" to help prevent others from unknowingly entering relationships with relatives.
