STUDY FINDS CHERNOBYL WORMS ARE IMMUNE TO RADIATION

DW: Are they using code words? Worm is easy, but what is radiation? Dirty mind ACTIVATE!

Move over, Spiderman. It’s time for worms to have their moment. Worms in the highly radioactive Chernobyl Exclusion Zone have been discovered to be immune to radiation, potentially offering insights into why some humans develop cancer and others don’t. Researchers from New York University studied these microscopic worms and found them to be "exceptionally resilient."

So, why study worms? Turns out that unlike other animals studied, the worms have simple genomes and short life spans, allowing scientists to observe multiple generations really quickly. The shocking analysis revealed no signs of DNA damage from radiation. Armed with this new info, researchers aim to use it to understand why some people get cancer and others don’t.
