DW: THIS is why I'm a sweats and t-shirt kinda guy...
A designer isn’t like other fish in the sea. Isabella Taylor, also known as Isab, is creating sustainable dresses from salmon skin, collecting discarded skin from fishmongers and smokehouses. Sustainability is her primary focus, and she believes it adds to the beauty of fashion. How does she do it? Taylor cleans, de-scales, tans, and dyes the fish skin, creating unique garments that no longer have a fishy smell and last a long time.
Inspired by her childhood interest in sea life, Taylor initially painted dead fish before transitioning to designing clothes. She credits fish skins for allowing her to experiment with highly sculptural, lightweight, and surreal couture pieces, attracting clients worldwide. Taylor aspires to turn her fashion into a business and make her creative pieces accessible by incorporating fish skin into everyday wear.
