“Bone” appetite! Now that cordyceps are in the limelight for being central to the ghoulish plot of HBO’s zombie series, “The Last of Us,” a TikTok user thought he’d put his own gruesome spin on growing the little fungus. A guy who goes by @Southernspore posted a video with the caption, “I grew it off my own blood and skin.”
How did this horrific experience work? The mushroom maniac used a piece of his fungal-infected dead skin, combined with some of his own blood upon which his “zombie mushrooms” could feed. Then, when the cordyceps grew large enough, he cut it open to search for bits of his…own flesh.
