A man named Joe Potenzano has gotten married for the first time in his life…at 92 years old. After resigning himself to the fact that he was never going to marry, the longtime bachelor finally settled down with the love of his life whom he first met at his sister’s wedding in 1959.
Joe and Mary Elkind, 84, kept in touch throughout the years, but it was never anything more than that. Then, nine years after Elkind’s husband died, Joe decided to ask her out. Why did it take so long? “All my friends can tell you. I was stupid,” Joe admits. “I was the first one to say, ‘I love you’ and I should have said it sooner.” But Mary thinks the marriage was perfectly timed, adding, “It wasn't meant for us back then, but it is now and it's perfect.”
