DW: I keep my voice low with two things: sadness and squirt cheese.
A man whose voice was so high that people would often mistake him for a woman has undergone surgery to make his voice sound deeper. The 26-year-old, who hasn’t been named, flew to Istanbul, Turkey to receive what’s called a “voice masculinization operation”. The surgery, which cost around $8k “tweaks” the vocal cords to make them more relaxed, thus producing a lower-sounding voice.
Dr. Kursat Yelken, an ear, nose, and throat specialist who worked on the patient, says, “During surgery, I tried several different voice tones and finalized the procedure when we found a satisfying deepness level.” Fortunately, when the doc spoke to the patient after, he reported, “When we made a follow-up video consultation a couple of months after, he said his whole life, including social and work life, has been changed.”
