Duck, duck…duck. In what has become a mysterious tradition in Belfast Harbor, Maine, a giant inflatable duck has appeared once again, floating in the harbor and delighting both locals and tourists. “We don’t know who owns them, we don’t know where they come from or how long they’ll be here,” says Scott Smith, operations manager for the Belfast Area Chamber of Commerce.
The enormous rubber duckie appeared for the first time in 2021 with the word “Joy” scrawled across it. In 2022, it showed up with the phrase “Greater Joy”. Now, the gigantic inflatable has appeared once more, sporting the phrase “Greatest Joy” across its broad chest.
