DW: My wife is asking if there is an "opposite treatment" because I am waaaaay to gassy.
No burp? No joke. A woman in Indiana whoâs been plagued by No-Burp Syndrome has finally found some relief thanks to Botox. Natalie Bickel, from the tiny town of Floyds Knobs, has suffered bloating, excessive flatulence, and a distended belly as a result of not being able to belch.
Â
The unusual condition, technically known as retrograde cricopharyngeal dysfunction (R-CPD), is treated by injecting Botox into the cricopharyngeal muscle in the throat. This causes temporary paralysis of the muscle, allowing it to release gas. Now Natalie burps unexpectedly but plans to go back for another treatment to help her learn to burp on demand.
