Twisted Sister's Dee Snider Considering Retirement From Live Performing

Criss Angel's HELP Charity Event Benefiting Pediatric Cancer Research And Treatment

Twisted Sister front man Dee Snider has always reveled in the hustle of the music business.

He's been through a lot in his life and career: he was one of the biggest rock stars of the '80s, he defended heavy metal from the PMRC, he went broke in the '90s and then got a second lease on his life and career in the '00s.

Snider has starred on TV shows and on Broadway; he's built a fruitful solo career and made a fortune in other endeavors. Now that he has no more concerts on his itinerary, Snider says it's time for him to take a step back and think about whether it's time to move on to a new phase in life.

"Now that my summer shows are over, I can tell you that I'm taking a break from concert performing for a while," Snider said via Instagram. "I've got no more concerts the rest of this year. [In] 2020, I'm clearing the boards there as well. We'll see what happens after that. In the meantime, you'll see me around — I'll be popping up here and there. I'll be doing a song or something with other people. But as far as concerts go, that's got to take a break."

He added that he's not planning to wind down all of his projects; he's working on a novel, as well as some TV and film projects. But there are other things in his personal life that he wants to focus on.

"And I've got some family situations to take care of," he concluded. "Everything's cool, but you gotta take care of the home fires every now and then, you know? So, not sure when I'll be back on the concert stage. If I'll be back. We'll see — but I'm taking a break for a while. Talk to you soon."

This wouldn't be the first time Snider has actively closed a chapter in his career. He retired Twisted Sister after a farewell tour in 2016 and later said it would be an "insult" to the fans to do a comeback.

In April of 2018 during an interview with Q104.3 New York's Jim Kerr and Shelli Sonstein, Snider rhapsodized about his home on the beach in Belize, where he and his wife spend most of their time when he's not touring. He indicated at the time that it was always difficult to leave the sunshine.

"It's awesome," he said. "You know, people talk their whole lives about, 'One day we're gonna move and live on the beach. And my wife and I got to that point where we were like, 'Are we going to be those people who say they're going to do it and never do?' which is unfortunately most people ... It's just a matter of wanting to live on the Caribbean, and we love it."
