Gary Rossington Returns To Lynyrd Skynyrd Three Weeks After Heart Procedure

SiriusXM Presents Lynyrd Skynyrd Live At The Buckhead Theatre in Atlanta

Co-founding Lynyrd Skynyrd guitarist Gary Rossington returned to the stage Saturday after undergoing a heart procedure earlier this month.

Rossington, who has suffered more than one heart attack onstage in his career, was sidelined with what was described as a leaky heart valve. He underwent the procedure on July 31 and has been recovering over the past three weeks.

Skynyrd postponed two August shows in Nevada and California until October to allow Rossington time to recover and for the band to make its way back to the region this fall.

There was no mention of Rossington's health issues and guitarist showed no signs of rust during the iconic southern rock band's 14-song set in Irvine, California, as opening act for ZZ Top on Top's 50th anniversary tour, Ultimate Classic Rock reports.

ZZ Top canceled four shows at the beginning of its tour due to an illness afflicting drummer Frank Beard.

Lynyrd Skynyrd is the second year of its 'Last of the Street Survivors' tour. The tour was originally billed as the band's farewell, during which it was attempting to play all of its usual venues "one last time."

It didn't take long for the band members to back off the retirement plans, suggesting last fall at the iHeartRadio Music Festival that the band has already written a new album. This past February, Skynyrd tacked more than 20 shows onto the end of the 'Street Survivors' tour. Then in March, front man Johnny Van Zant confirmed that the band is indeed plotting to release the new album.

Skynyrd will be on the road through at least 2020. Get all the tour dates here.
