Phish Phans Barred From Camping Due To Prairie Dog Plague In Colorado

Phish In Concert At Fenway Park

Phish's Labor Day weekend concerts at Dick's Sporting Goods Park in Colorado will go on as scheduled, but officials are warning phans that there will be no overnight camping.

The buzz kill is on account of the literal plague, which is affecting the prairie dog population in the surrounding Commerce City, Colorado, area.

CNN reports the plague is the same bubonic plague or 'black death' that killed an estimated 60 percent of the population of medieval Europe.

The band made the announcement Tuesday after consulting with Colorado health officials. The affected areas will reportedly remain closed through at least September 6, as officials continue insecticide treatments. Attendees will also be prohibited from parking on grass or unpaved lots.

An estimated 3,000 people are being affected by the prohibition of camping near the concert venue.

Phish, whose loyal followers have endured more than a little bad luck during the band's large-scale outdoor events over the years, apologized for "the tremendous inconvenience." Camping and RV tickets will be automatically refunded this week, the band added.

While no human cases of plague have been reported, officials believe the disease can be transferred to humans by direct contact with the infected prairie dogs or their fleas.

The infected fleas were detected in the area's prairie dog population earlier this month. Other events near the soccer stadium have been postponed as officials work to combat the disease.
