DW: This makes me so happy!
A man dressed as Darth Vader turned up at a San Diego City Council meeting to mock the use of Flock surveillance cameras. Approaching the podium during a public safety committee meeting, the "Star Wars" villain sarcastically urged officials to keep the cameras, calling them "what the Emperor needs" to hunt down the "rebel scum" and their hidden base on Hoth. Playing up the creepier side of mass surveillance, he claimed the cameras follow children from playground to pool to gym, and joked that he personally needed one to stalk his ex-girlfriend.
He told council members to use their "Jedi mind trick" to sell the public on the cameras, and said money should be pulled from other services to fund them, declaring the city does not need parks, libraries, daycare centers, or homeless shelters, only funding for his Stormtroopers. He warned that if the troops did not get their money, there would be hell to pay with the Emperor, who is not as forgiving as he is. The satirical bit was a pointed protest against the license plate reading cameras.
