Man Heats His Home By Burning Donuts Instead Of Wood

DW: This is fat man blasphemy!

Apparently, you can choose between “breakfast” and “heating” now. A Polish man has figured out that Lidl doughnuts are actually cheaper to burn for heat than wood, and he has the cozy home to prove it. Marek Hoffmann was tired of paying too much to keep his log burner going and started doing the math on alternatives to wood, and noticed that a single Lidl doughnut costs around three cents and contains 440 calories.

Since a calorie measures how much heat something produces when burned, he worked out that 133 doughnuts would match the heat output of 22 pounds of wood while costing him just $3.36 compared to $5.31 for the equivalent amount of firewood. After making a small air gap in his stove to get things burning properly, Marek put his theory to the test. In five hours, his home went from 57 degrees Fahrenheit all the way up to 72 degrees Fahrenheit, proving the concept worked. He said he was simply curious whether the numbers would add up in real life and was pleased to find out they did.
