DW: I just can't with this one...
Is this better or worse than being sent to the glue factory? A family in Denmark made a surprising choice when their 22-year-old pony, Chicago 57, was put down due to serious skin issues. Instead of a regular burial, the pony’s body was donated to Aalborg Zoo so it could help feed meat-eating animals like lions. The owner wanted the pony to keep giving, even if in a different way.
The zoo accepts small animals too, like rabbits and chickens, and euthanizes them gently to mimic a natural food chain for its predators. Some critics found the idea upsetting, but the owner praised the humane process and the zoo’s eco-friendly goal of making sure “nothing goes to waste.” The zoo has seen dozens of such donations this year, helping care for their carnivores.
