Video games are bad for kids, right? Not so fast. A team of researchers from the Netherlands, Germany, and Sweden has published a paper showing the results of a study that seems to prove that playing video games is linked to a boost in intelligence. In the never-ending discussion about screen-time, this study might get some attention.
The same study also measured the impact of watching TV and using social media, and while it didn’t lead to an increase in intelligence, it didn’t show a link to lower intelligence either. The researchers looked at records for almost 10-thousand US kids aged nine or 10, and measured things like reading comprehension, visual-spatial processing, memory, flexible thinking, and self-control.
