Airport Introduces Time Limit On Hugs

DW: I told New Zealand I was sorry! Don't make others suffer!

Dunedin Airport in New Zealand has sparked global debate with its new sign limiting hugs to three minutes in its drop-off zone, encouraging “fonder farewells” to take place in the car park. Reactions to the rule, shared in a viral Facebook post, range from outrage at the restriction on affection to surprise that the airport still offers a free drop-off zone, considering rising fees at many airports.

CEO Daniel De Bono defended the decision in an interview with "RNZ Radio" citing a study showing that a 20-second hug boosts oxytocin and allows more people to experience hugs while keeping traffic moving efficiently. He also noted that the airport's parking lot offers 15 minutes of free time for longer goodbyes.
