New Research Says Water Does Not Cure A Hangover

DW: WHERE WAS THIS INFO BEFORE I GOT SOBER!!! And does it apply to ice cream benders?

Chugging water after a night of drinking may do little to prevent a hangover, according to researchers from Utrecht University in the Netherlands. Their studies show that while drinking water before bed can reduce dehydration, it doesn’t cure common hangover symptoms like headaches, nausea, and exhaustion.

The research suggests that hangovers are caused by a combination of factors, including alcohol metabolism and the body’s inflammatory response, not just dehydration. Drinking water helps with thirst but doesn't really reduce other hangover symptoms, and no scientifically proven hangover cure currently exists.

It was also found that hangovers tend to get worse as we get older. As we age, our liver function declines, our bodies have less water, and we lose muscle mass, so when you hear people say “I can’t drink like I used to,” it’s true. The best cures for a hangover are consuming electrolyte beverages, bone broth, or bananas.
