DW: In the South we call that free protein!
A South African woman, Nombulelo Mkumla, was left traumatized after discovering a dismembered rat in her loaf of bread while making toast. She had already eaten half the loaf when she found the mangled rodent, complete with hair, guts, and a tail, lodged between two slices.
Nombulelo shared the disturbing footage on Facebook and contacted PepsiCo, the supplier of the bread. PepsiCo South Africa acknowledged the "isolated incident" and assured customers an investigation is underway, stating the loaf did not meet their quality standards. They also reached out to Mkumla saying, “Yes, I admit that your bread had a mouse/rat. Don't worry; it won't affect you health-wise.”
The apology only made her angrier. She said she will never eat Sasko products again and also told the local news, “This experience has been traumatic and disgusting.”
