DW: 78 hours? There is NOTHING in this world that I would want to do for 78...other than sleeping
A New Jersey man turned his insomnia into a record-breaking achievement by playing “World of Warcraft” for more than 78 hours straight. Justin O'Donnell, a Marine Corps veteran, logged an impressive 78 hours and 30 minutes of continuous gameplay, breaking two world records in the process. Although he was allowed a 5-minute break each hour, he used that time to eat and play with his dogs rather than sleep.
O'Donnell completed his marathon session with 80 minutes of unused rest time and reflected on how he managed to stay focused during the long hours. "I got physically tired, not so much mentally. I don't suffer from a lot of the typical issues when I'm awake for so long, like lethargy and hearing things. Some people start to slur their words and might even be mistaken for intoxicated—I typically don't get any of that," he told Guinness World Records.
His efforts broke the record for the longest videogame marathon playing “World of Warcraft,” previously set at 59 hours and 20 minutes. O'Donnell also claimed the title for the longest video game marathon playing an MMORPG (massively multiplayer online role-playing game).
