DW: Again, life imitates art. Watch below...
We have press-on nails, why not spray-on sneakers? Two-time Olympic silver medalist Hellen Obiri of Kenya is going to make history at this year’s games by wearing spray-on sneakers. Specifically, the Cloudboom Strike LS shoe is created by having a robot spray a single continuous filament onto a foot form, creating the entire upper part of the shoe in three minutes. After that, it’s passed to a second robot that adds color, which again cures in three minutes.
Obiri says the first time she saw the shoes she said “I can’t run with these,” and said her fellow runners thought they were a joke. Then, she wore them while winning the Boston Marathon in April, and now she’s hooked. The shoes will be available again this fall for $330.
