DW: This is why I do not eat seafood.
Doctors in Vietnam were put in a slippery situation recently when they had to perform life-saving surgery on a 34-year-old man who had a 12-inch eel lodged in the guy’s abdomen, which caused “intestinal perforations.” Admitted to the Hai Ha District Medical Center with severe abdominal cramps, initial tests revealed some pretty major internal damage.
Docs successfully removed the eel and repaired the damaged intestines, leaving him with only mild post-op discomfort. Curiously, the man couldn't explain how the eel got inside him. However, the medical staff presumes the creature wiggled up into his backside and crawled through his colon, causing the injuries. Reminiscent of a horror flick, what truly disturbed the hospital staff was the fact that the eel was still and well inside the patient’s body.
