DW: But I thought everything on the internet was true! At least according to Benjamin Franklin.
Imagine heading over to the lottery website to check your numbers and finding out you hit the jackpot of $340-million. Now imagine you find out that you actually won nothing. That’s why John Cheeks is suing Powerball and the Washington, DC lottery. He bought a Powerball ticket using his family birthdates but missed the live drawing. When he checked his ticket against the numbers on the website the next day, he matched every single one. Just one problem…
When Cheeks took his ticket to a retailer, they told him that none of the numbers matched the ones that were drawn. When he went to the lottery offices, they told him “Hey, this ticket is no good. Just throw it in the trash can.” Now, it’s evidence in the lawsuit. The lottery says a contractor posted the wrong numbers on the website. No word on what his odds of winning the lawsuit are, but they’re probably better than the odds of winning the Powerball jackpot.
