DW: I wish I could bomb my wife's gnome collection...they creep me out.
The UK’s Ministry of Defense has removed a “naval projectile” from the lawn of a couple who’ve been displaying it as a garden ornament for years. The bomb, which Sian and Jeffrey Edwards, 77, thought was a "dummy" bomb with no charge, is thought to date back the late 19th Century.
Sian said she used to bang a gardening tool against it to remove dirt that had settled on the “ornament.” However, late last week, a cop told them he had spotted the bomb and would need to alert the authorities. Tests proved the bomb was live, but fortunately, only had a tiny amount of charge to it. It was then taken to a quarry in where it was covered with 5 tons of sand and detonated.
