De Winton’s “blind” golden mole, which was last seen in 1936, has been tracked by scientists after surveying “11.2 miles of dune habitat in a day.”
Golden moles are burrowers with hearing so sensitive, they can detect vibrations from the top of the surface, according to the Endangered Wildlife Trust (EWT). Meanwhile, they leave no trace of a tunnel while they move through the sand, which has made them much harder to track down. Now that the team has confirmed the mole by detecting its DNA, the cute little waddling species appears to be back in action.
