A strong line of severe thunderstorms is expected to cross through the Roanoke and Lynchburg areas on Sunday.

From the National Weather Service in Blacksburg, VA:

WIND ADVISORY IN EFFECT FROM 5 AM TO 2 PM EDT SUNDAY...

Strong to severe storms are possible on Sunday, along with heavy rainfall. There is a slight risk of severe thunderstorms on Sunday. The primary threat is damaging wind. The secondary risks are isolated tornadoes and hail.

South winds 15 to 20 mph with gusts 35 to 50 mph expected. Gusty winds will blow around unsecured objects. Tree limbs could be blown down and a few power outages may result.

Winds this strong can make driving difficult, especially for high profile vehicles. Use extra caution.

From ABC13 - WSET Meteorologist Will Stafford:

We could be in for a rather stormy day as we head into Sunday as a very strong front marches its way across the mid-Atlantic and deep south.

A WIND ADVISORY is active through the day on Sunday.

The first round of storms will arrive near sunrise Sunday. These will be decaying storms that have developed to our west. The severe threat with these are low, but not zero.

We may get a lull as we head into the afternoon before more storms get going in the afternoon heat and humidity.

With the temps climbing quickly and with the increase in humidity, the storms in the afternoon on Sunday have the higher chance at turning strong to severe.

The main threat will be the gusty winds, but we could also see some small hail, and isolated flooding concerns.

A tornado warning is possible as we head into Sunday. Greatest likelihood to see one comes in the afternoon, but the morning round could also feature them.

Storm threat windows tomorrow look to come in two rounds: the first between about 6A-Noon and the second between about 3P-7P.
