LYNCHBURG, Va. (WSET) — The Lynchburg Police Department says 20-year-old Avriel Hooks was last seen by her family on August 22 around 8:00 pm and reported missing on August 23.

Police said they have been working diligently since then to locate Hooks.

LPD has been in constant communication with her family and continues to investigate this as a missing person case.

Hooks’ lack of communication with her family and abnormal absence makes her disappearance suspicious, LPD said.

Detectives have interviewed individuals with whom Hooks regularly communicates and are utilizing all available investigative resources, police said.

On Sunday, LPD Detectives, with help from the Virginia Department of Emergency Management, searched an area in the City of Lynchburg where Hooks frequently travelled.

At this time, Hooks has not been found and her whereabouts remain unknown.

Her parents said that she wouldn't have left her 5-month-old child willingly.

Anyone with information on the whereabouts of Hooks is urged to contact Detective C.T. Davis at 434-455-6166 or the Lynchburg Police Department.
