About 1,000 students came out this past Saturday for "Cuts With Cops" at Northside High School.

The event was put together by the Roanoke County Police Department with help from Roanoke City Police, Paul Mitchell School in Roanoke, Platinum Cuts, and more.

Kids in grades K-12 from around the Roanoke Valley received free haircuts and school supplies at the event, as well being treated to food and games.

Halfway through, organizers had to run back out to restock the school supplies.

An event spokesman said the idea was to help out parents and students economically while also supporting the community.

93.5/102.7 JJS's Ryan O'Bryan was on hand at the event giving out free stuff.
