It's My Mom's Birthday! - But she won't remember

DW: No funny stories today my friends. It is a day to celebrate...but with a heavy heart. My Mom, Barbara, turns 79 today! WOOHOOO! Here's the kicker though, she won't remember it. My Mom has late stage Alzheimer's. A little over 2 years ago, my wife and I purchased a house with my father so we could all be under one roof. My Dad, henceforth known as Pop, refuses to put my mom in a home and is her sole caregiver. He has to be the strongest man I've ever known. Taking care of someone with Dementia or Alzheimer's is not as easy task. My wife and I, along with my mother-in-law and our eldest children, try to watch my mom from time to time to give my father a break. The hard part is my wife is a stay at home mom for a 3 year old and home schooling our special needs child, my eldest goes to college, and I work two jobs, so there is not a lot of spare time to help out. But we try. So for my Mom's birthday I would ask that people donate to the research of Alzheimer's. There is a link below. This damned disease has affected many of my friends, coworkers, and family. I call it a slow death because she is technically here, but she is not fully here mentally. I just pray that the memories that we as a family have made while she has been ill carry over to the afterlife so she can really enjoy them. Hug your family and friends tonight. Thanks for listening. You guys and girls ROCK!
