From ABC 13 - WSET Meteorologist Sydney Welch:
The National Weather Service has issued advisories and warnings ahead of a strong system heading toward Virginia.
Wednesday, late afternoon to early evening, rain begins. As it moves into the highlands and mountains, freezing rain will start for those areas.
Ice/freezing rain is forecast for counties along the WV/VA border north of I-64, as well as the mountains of Amherst and Nelson counties and possibly Bedford and Roanoke.
The weather will come late Wednesday night and into Thursday morning.
Locations in the mountains could see 0.50" of ice in localized spots, which could cause power outages. Otherwise, accumulations will be light.
Slippery spots on the roads are likely, especially on I-81.
A brief wintry mix is possible for Lynchburg early Thursday.
Southside will likely see all rain; wintry mix chances decrease significantly southeast of Lynchburg.
