A Buddhist temple in Thailand is out of monks after all four of their holy men were defrocked after they tested positive for meth. The monks included an abbot at the temple, and all four were sent to a facility for drug rehab after the tests.
Locals are worried because an important part of the Buddhist religion is ‘merit-making,’ where they donate food to monks as a good deed. A district official says that more monks will be sent to the temple so that the locals can practice their obligations.
