GFTW Collects Non-Perishable Food Donations This Week to Distribute Locally

Gleaning For The World representatives will be hosting a collection of nonperishable foods and supplies this week at Sam’s Club on Wards Road.

The collection will start on Tuesday (Feb. 9) and run through Saturday (Feb.13) from 10am until 6pm each day.

Items the nonprofit is asking for include:

  • non-perishable food items
  • baby diapers and formula
  • pet foods
  • feminine care items
  • paper products
  • detergents
  • household cleaning supplies

Throughout 2020, Gleaning For The World received 30 tractor trailers filled with fresh or frozen nutritious foods and distributed the items to local partners (shelters, pantries, kitchens, and other nonprofits or churches with feeding programs) who placed the food directly into the hands of local families and individuals facing food insecurities.

GFTW also hosted four drive-through food distributions in Bedford, Brookneal, Madison Heights, and Concord, each time serving hundreds of area households.

“With the needs still so great among our neighbors, we’ve decided to reach out to our community asking for donations of nonperishable foods, hygiene items, and household supplies. This collection will be used right here in Central Virginia,” Jeane Smiley-Mason explained.

“We hope the community will respond and help us fill our truck with these items to help feed their neighbors who are dealing with food insecurities.”
